Social value
We’re committed to giving back to the communities we work with. Whether through our apprenticeship programme, supply chain engagement or our volunteering efforts, we are passionate about contributing to the local economy and community.
Promoting volunteering
Volunteering gives our colleagues the chance to be a part of addressing and supporting some of the country’s biggest challenges and enables them to play an active role in their communities.
Our give a day of your time initiative (GADOYT) gives employees the opportunity to take two days off from work a year to provide support for worthwhile causes.
Colleagues can use their days to get involved in numerous ways, whether it be charity work, community initiatives, educational support or taking time out to mentor the next generation of construction professionals.
Recruiting apprentices
We champion the industry for the opportunities it offers to everyone from all backgrounds. This is reflected in our Gold accredited membership of The 5% Club.
This means we are targeting (and expecting to exceed) at least 5% of our workforce on apprenticeships.
Our supply chain
Supporting our clients in delivery requires a diverse supply chain, so we partner both nationally and locally with a wide range of suppliers, and we’re proud to say that over 57% of our supply chain is small to medium enterprises (SMEs).
The regional nature of our business means that there are more than 3,000 partners providing goods and services to our projects and offices across a very wide range of categories, with 99.8% of tier 1 suppliers being UK based.
Our procurement and commercial teams provide help and support to SME suppliers and guide them through the Constructionline qualification process where needed.
We educate and upskill suppliers through our partnership with Supply Chain Sustainability School with modules including building information modelling (BIM), government soft landings (GSL) and climate change.
CCS scheme
We are a Considerate Construction Scheme (CCS) partner and our average score sits at 42.4 for 2023. This is above the industry average of 40.3.
Thrive
We use Thrive to help us track, audit, and report our social value activities more effectively. It enables consistent and transparent reporting, ensuring we can showcase the positive impact we’re making on our projects.
Why do we use Thrive?
- Thrive simplifies the process of capturing and reporting the social value we generate.
- It offers flexibility in how we report our activities while promoting consistency through the Impact Evaluation Standard (IES).
- IES is fully aligned with the latest government methodologies, providing defensible, benchmarkable reporting.
- Endorsed by both the UK government and private sector, the IES helps build confidence and credibility in our reporting – across contracts and partnerships.
