Tilbury Douglas breaks ground on the first permanent PET-CT facility in Wales
Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out business, has officially marked the start of construction on the new PET-CT Scanner facility at Singleton Hospital – which will be the first permanent PET-CT facility in South West Wales.
Being delivered on behalf of Swansea Bay University Health Board, the new facility will deliver a state-of-the-art diagnostic environment designed to enhance patient care and support clinical excellence. The new 330sqm single-storey building will feature modern blockwork construction with a dual-pitched roof and a high-quality rainscreen cladding system. Internally, it will provide a PET-CT scanner room, six uptake rooms, supporting clinical spaces, waiting areas, and staff accommodation, all developed to meet full Radiation Protection Advisory (RPA) standards.
A lightweight link corridor and MEP enclosure will ensure seamless integration with the existing oncology department, alongside targeted refurbishment and M&E upgrades. Designed with efficiency and patient experience in mind, the facility will expand diagnostic capacity, streamline clinical pathways, and create a high-quality, future-proofed healthcare setting.
