Tilbury Douglas commences construction of Laurus Grace School in Stockport
Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK-based building, infrastructure, engineering, and fit-out company, has started construction on Laurus Grace School in Stockport.
Following planning approval secured on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE), the two-storey building will be constructed on the former tennis courts within the grounds of Hazel Grove High School (HGHS). The new facility, operated by the Laurus Trust, will accommodate up to 80 pupils.
The project, designed with sustainability at its core, features photovoltaic panels on the roof and canopies in the car park to support the school’s net zero goals and a design that maximises natural lighting throughout the building. In addition to parking for the new school, the development includes improved parking for HGHS staff and segregated parking for construction teams.
Targeting a social value return on investment of more than £3 million, Tilbury Douglas will collaborate with local partners Star Procurement and Pure Employment to focus on local spending, job creation, and education engagement with HGHS and Stockport College.
Phil Shaw, Managing Director – Building North at Tilbury Douglas, added: “This project is a fantastic example of Tilbury Douglas’ commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable education facilities. We are proud to play a key role in shaping the future of the Stockport community.”
The project team includes Iceni Projects, Pozzoni, Tace, and AJP.
