Tilbury Douglas completes new £10.5m extension to Crownbridge School
Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering, and fit-out business, has successfully completed the construction of new £10.5m extension to Crownbridge School for Torfaen County Borough Council in Croesyceiliog, South Wales.
Delivered through the South East & Mid Wales Collaborative Construction Framework (SEWSCAP), the new building, which will be Net Zero Carbon in Operation, has created much needed facilities and increased the capacity of the school.
The original school was built in 2012 for up to 80 pupils with severe learning difficulties aged between four and 19 years old. The single storey building provides spaces for an additional 50 pupils and 25 staff.
It includes learning spaces, a science/art classroom, independent living spaces, hall/dining space, a rebound (trampoline) room, and a six-metre-high central corridor.
It is one of the first projects in the region that required the sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) design to be submitted to the SuDS Approving Body (SAB) for approval. The design includes rain gardens and permeable hard landscaping with high retention capacity and was audited throughout construction.
