Tilbury Douglas Senior Building Services Manager crowned Innovator of the Year
Jamie Brown, Senior Building Services Manager at Tilbury Douglas, was the winner of the Innovator of the Year Award at the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Scotland Awards in September.
Jamie was commended for his work on the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC) project for the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) at Inchinnan.
Jamie is a longstanding member of the CIOB with more than 30 years of experience in the industry; his work and leadership on MMIC was integral to the project’s success.
Previously, Jamie was the M&E Manager on the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) Project – a highly serviced, specialist Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility with cleanrooms for the processing of blood, cells and tissue.
Jamie brought lessons learned, along with technical knowledge from other cleanrooms and laboratories to the MMIC Project and drove innovation throughout. As MEP, process and validation were at the heart of making the project a success, Jamie led the construction team, design team and client by:
- Value engineering £950k from process equipment packages by optimising the design to allow the compressed air package.
- Revising the purified water consumption requirements and refining of the scope and complexity of the effluent treatment system.
- Working with the design team and end users to develop a pressure cascade to ensure GMP compliance and operator safety. This was incorporated into the Environmental Matrix which the design was then based on.
- Developing the access strategy to ensure GMP compliance.
- Advising the team to purchase specialist process equipment such as an automated parts washer, downflow booth and nitrogen generation system taking full design and compliance responsibility for the client.
- Using MMC methods to install an off-site assembled fogging shower.
- Early engagement with the process gas engineer allowing pipe routes to be modelled and offsite fabrication.
- Pushing the air compressor vendor to pre-assemble the compressor house and fabricating the pipework prior to delivery to site.
- Drafting and executing all protocols prior to submission to client.
