Pioneering transformation for a digital future

At Tilbury Douglas, digital innovation is helping us deliver better outcomes for our customers, our people and the communities we work in.

Our digital journey began nearly a decade ago, with early adoption of Building Information Modelling across major projects. Today, that commitment has evolved into a connected digital delivery ecosystem: TD Connect.

Built around strong information management, governance and practical innovation, TD Connect brings together people, data and technology to support smarter decision making, greater consistency and improved project performance.

TD Connect is our integrated digital ecosystem, designed to support projects from the earliest stages through to delivery and handover.

With information management at its core, TD Connect supports the creation of a clear ‘golden thread’ of project information, helping teams maintain structured, accessible and reliable data throughout the project lifecycle. It also provides the foundation for digital twin-ready handover, ensuring project information remains valuable beyond completion.

By connecting design, planning, delivery and data, TD Connect enables teams to explore options earlier, make informed decisions sooner and deliver with greater certainty.

Artificial intelligence and robotics

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being explored as a controlled capability to support our people, improve efficiency and reduce repetitive administration. Current areas of use include research, document review, routine data tasks, digital planning outputs and project specific build sequence content. These tools help teams strengthen communication, improve consistency and focus their expertise where it adds greatest value.

Our approach to AI is guided by Tilbury Douglas’ Ethical Artificial Intelligence Policy, which sets out our commitment to using AI safely, responsibly and transparently. AI must support fairness, accountability, privacy, data protection, safety and inclusivity, with human oversight embedded wherever possible. We are focused on ensuring AI is used to enhance decision making and productivity, not replace judgement, and that any development protects individual dignity, prevents harm, bias or discrimination, and maintains trust.

As part of Tilbury Douglas’ wider innovation journey, Douglas, an AI-powered humanoid site assistant, is being piloted to explore the future role of robotics in construction. Currently an innovation and learning project, Douglas is helping the business better understand opportunities around digital site capture, site records, progress monitoring, health and safety evidence, quality assurance and design validation.

Through live construction environments, the project is supporting practical learning around how robotics could assist future site activity in a safe and effective way. The focus is on exploring potential use cases, learning from pilots and understanding what may be needed for future development.

Tilbury Douglas is also exploring opportunities to work with an academic partner to support the next stage of Douglas’ development, helping to assess practical applications and future opportunities.

Supporting our people and projects

Technology only creates value when it works for the people using it.

Our digital team works closely with project teams, customers and supply chain partners to embed practical tools that improve collaboration, consistency and delivery performance. Through training, governance and continuous improvement, we help colleagues build confidence in digital ways of working and prepare for the future needs of the construction industry.

Driving better outcomes

Our digital strategy supports:

  • Earlier, clearer decision making
  • Improved cost, carbon and programme visibility
  • Reduced duplication and rework
  • Stronger information management and governance
  • Better collaboration across teams and supply chain partners
  • Enhanced project records and digital twin ready handover
  • Increased productivity through automation and AI

As technology continues to evolve, Tilbury Douglas remains focused on applying innovation in a practical, responsible and secure way strengthening delivery, improving productivity and creating better outcomes for our customers.
