Whole lifecycle decarbonisation service

The UK is committed to reaching net zero carbon by 2050 and the construction industry has an obligation to address its carbon footprint and be at the forefront of innovation to reduce carbon impact.

As a tier 1 contractor, we are committed to achieving net zero carbon, not only in our own operations, but also in the facilities we design and build for our customers. We understand our role in reducing emissions throughout the whole life of buildings, including operation, maintenance and end of life.

Our expertise in decarbonisation

Our expertise

We’ve been successful in helping our customers to achieve low carbon, sustainable buildings, completing one of the UK’s first net zero carbon in operation office buildings back in 2011.

Since then, we have supported over 40 clients on their decarbonisation journey, delivering over £100m of decarbonisation and retrofit works in the past five years and so we have a wealth of experience from which our customers can benefit.

Our decarbonisation offer

We consider decarbonisation across the whole life cycle of the buildings that we deliver. This includes upfront embodied carbon as well as carbon in maintenance, replacement, end of life deconstruction and recycling. We also deliver buildings that achieve net zero carbon in operation. We help our customers understand carbon challenges, reduce their energy costs and improve the quality of their buildings, for both new build and refurbishment schemes.

Our integrated mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) business means that we consider MEP options alongside fabric options, enabling us to identify the best value whole life carbon reductions for each customer pound spent.

Our comprehensive solution for carbon footprint management across customer estates includes:

  • Advice – initial assessments, business case formulation and improving customer knowledge
  • Implementation – design, planning, construction and installation
  • Performance monitoring – evaluating and optimising building performance

Working with our supply chain

We are also working with our supply chain to lower carbon emissions through the development of low carbon construction products, modern methods of construction and digital technology as well as implementing Environmental Product Declarations for whole life carbon in the products we use.

Assured delivery

We have places on many national construction frameworks including the Procure Partnerships Decarbonisation framework as well as Pagabo, YORhub, Southern Construction Framework, North West Construction Hub and NHS Shared Business Services. These enable efficient delivery of customer decarbonisation requirements through prequalified and sustainable contracting mechanisms.

Visit our Frameworks page for further information.

We have completed a number of low carbon projects including:

  • St Mary’s Primary School
  • Rayn’s Way Office Block
  • Wednesfield Primary School
  • Mount Oswald Student Accommodation
  • Kingsway Park High School
  • Samuel Cody School
