Tilbury Douglas delivered the Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) elements for this major strategic facility for Wessex Water. The scheme driver was to establish a state-of-the-art treatment facility with the capability to service several critical sludge dewatering and retreatment facilities. The imported and rehydrated sludge is digested, producing methane, which is then burnt, generating electricity for export back to the grid.
Works comprised of:
- Interconnecting pipework and Motor Control Centres (MCCs)
- A new CHP (Combined Heat and Power) unit
- Lime and Ferric dosing for Phosphorus removal
- Circa 90t/d Cake import reception facility comprising:
- Reception Building
- Cake mixing hopper and pumps
- SAS storage tank
- Buffer tank and associated mixers
Off-site Build: Digester No. 4 Pipe Bridge
A critical element to successfully delivering the scheme was an efficient and innovative approach to minimise operational problems whilst installing the Pipe Bridge. As this was to be located at a main access point, we needed to be innovative in how this was delivered and installed to minimise operational disruption.
We developed a comprehensive off-site build strategy. Whilst the main structure was in the factory, all pipework, ducting, trace heating, lagging, and cable ducting was installed. During installation and whilst the structure was at ground level, we coordinated a number of sub-contractor activities to ensure a safe, swift and successful installation.
