Tilbury Douglas launches new sustainability strategy: People, Planet & Performance (PPP)
Tilbury Douglas has today announced the launch of its new sustainability strategy called People, Planet and Performance (PPP). As a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit out company, this new framework will provide a comprehensive approach to carbon reduction, sustainability and social value outcomes across the business.
Devised in line with current policy and legislation, including the Government’s Construction Playbook and the UK’s 2050 Net Zero Target, PPP aims to embed sustainability into ‘business as usual’ and ensures a joined-up approach to creating, recording and reporting on sustainable value.
The new strategy will directly benefit customers through a clear and measurable methodology that supports added value on projects.
People
PPP includes a commitment to ‘social value as standard,’ featuring commitments to local employment on every project, using local supply chains, and promoting volunteering in local communities. Social value will be measured and recorded through the nationally recognised ‘TOMs’ Framework, allowing customers to easily compare social value outcomes on a like-for-like basis.
Planet
Environmentally, a move towards a green car fleet, featuring fully electric and hybrid electric vehicles, will significantly help to reduce the business’s carbon emissions and play a key role in Tilbury Douglas’s headline commitment to becoming net-zero carbon in their business operations by the end of 2023.
The business’s greenhouse gas emissions will be externally verified by Achilles to meet the requirements for the Carbon Reduce Certification Scheme (previously CEMARS). Tilbury Douglas recently received the certification for its 2020 emissions.
Performance
The entire strategy is underpinned by the final theme of performance, which ensures quality and compliance across all business activity, proactively pushing the progression and development of its construction methodology and added value. The use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) and digital solutions, such as BIM, A-site and digital twin, combined with closer supply chain and customer involvement, will reduce greenhouse emissions, save time and ultimately reduce costs for customers.
Commenting on the new strategy, Paul Gandy, Managing Director at Tilbury Douglas said: “We are delighted to launch our new sustainability strategy, People, Planet & Performance or PPP, which sets out our clear plan to deliver improved social and environmental outcomes for our business, customers and supply chain.
“PPP represents a step-change in our sustainability programme and includes a significant investment in digital technology, MMC and a clear commitment to becoming carbon net-zero in our operations by the end of 2023.”
