Tilbury Douglas welcomes visitors to construction sites as part of Open Doors week

Tilbury Douglas, a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out business, welcomed hundreds of visitors to its construction sites as part of Open Doors week which ran from 18-22 March 2024.

Open Doors is an annual event run by Build UK where construction companies open up their sites to showcase the wide range of careers available in construction.

We opened the doors at the following sites:

  • Arrowe Park Hospital
  • Braidhurst Industrial Estate
  • Brandon Unit Treatment Hub
  • Caedmon Hall
  • Catterick Integrated Care Campus
  • Crownbridge School
  • Derriford Hospital
  • Great Yarmouth Operations and Maintenance Campus
  • Hemel Hempstead School
  • Oldham Old Library
  • Prince Charles Hospital
  • St Anne’s Bridge
  • Stepping Hill Hospital
  • T3 Birmingham office
  • Warringtonfire
  • Wednesfield Technology Primary School

"Just a short note to tell you how much we appreciated the time, effort and planning that went into our visit to your site at Derriford. Both Javier and I were so impressed with how it was pitched and presented from the gear to the future planning and the hands- on experience laid on for us."

Richard Avery, Learning out of the classroom co-ordinator, Stansfield Academy Exeter

"We had some great conversations when we came back to the college and whilst we have talked quite in depth about concrete, we learnt so much more about the uses in terms of the radiation examples. Thanks so very much for today's visit and for everyone's time they gave to my students! It's been a real success for us in terms of passion, confidence and knowledge."

Helena Procter, Lecturer in Design, Surveying and Planning for Construction, City College Plymouth

“We, as councillors and residents really enjoyed the visit to St Anne's Bridge. It was well planned and very organised. The equipment was very impressive and the tour very informative. It was a pleasure to attend, reporting back to residents with the great work going on.”

Denise Ward and Vincent Ricci, local councillors for the Denton area

At our Stepping Hill Hospital site, we were able to welcome children supported by the Bolton Sensory Support Service, which provides specialist support for the visually impaired.

At St Anne’s Bridge, the team welcomed staff and students from Broadstones School, a Department for Education registered independent special school which caters for learners that find traditional school settings problematic and find learning through vocational activities beneficial.
